Asia – free resource for tracking East Asian economies
To do my research and analysis of economies and markets, I've built a big python-based infrastructure to collect, clean and manipulate a large amount of data from government and official sources.
Putting this together has been much more work than I could have imagined. But not relying on database providers has some advantages: I've become much more familiar with the data than I was before, and it has given me some freedom to distribute the results.
I've already been making some of the data available as interactive charts. I've now added a tool to select, chart and download the data.
Currently, national accounts, foreign trade and CPI data can be accessed. I'll be adding more series in the current weeks. As shown in my usual analysis, the data are cleaned (for example, transformed from year-to-date in China), seasonally adjusted where necessary, and comparable (for example, presented as ratios of GDP).
Please let me know if you want any specific data added, or if there are other improvements you would like to see made.
